"Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and made us feel super welcome and safe on the road. She also gave us some great tips and recommendations for the rest of our stay...We got to see a whole different side of Kennebunkport that we didn’t even know was there. The ride was very enjoyable and I would definitely do it again/recommend it to others." - Google Review
Bike, Age, & Difficulty Information
Note: This group tour is open to the public. Booking remains open until we reach the limit of 10 riders — meaning you might make a few new friends! If you would prefer a private experience, please contact us to discuss scheduling and pricing.

You haven’t seen the Maine coast yet if you haven’t seen it from a bicycle seat. This 10-mile non-electric bicycle tour includes stops at all the scenic and historical highlights of the Kennebunk and Kennebunkport areas.
You’ll get up close to a 19th-Century shipbuilder’s home, view breathtaking seascapes, tour a stunning seaside chapel, marvel at the sweeping compound of two American presidents, and gaze at a classic Maine lighthouse — among many other points of interest.
The route itself is worth the ride: one of the most iconic coastal byways in Southern Maine.
All our guides are locals, with deep knowledge of the region’s history and culture and a gift for storytelling. We love talking about our area and we will be happy to answer any questions you might have along the way.
You can expect your bike tour to be entertaining, informative, and most of all, fun. This group tour is strictly non-electric bikes only. There will be hills, but believe us, your effort will be well worth it!
If you have any questions that aren't answered on this page or you wish to book by phone, just give us a call at 207-967-6065!
Remember how fun and freeing it was as a kid to just grab your bike and go? Our tour bicycles summon similar sensations. You can choose from an 8-speed cruiser bike with swept-back handlebars or a sportier hybrid. Smaller bikes are available for younger participants.
If it’s been a while since you’ve ridden a bike, your guide will review gear-shifting and braking technique before you head out and will continue to check in on you throughout the experience.
Safety is our top priority. Your guide will teach you how to share the road safely with vehicle traffic and will make sure the entire group remains together throughout the tour. No rider left behind!

As opposed to our e-bike tours, this tour welcomes riders as young as 12 (who must be accompanied by an adult). You can also book a child seat or Burley trailer for younger children.
We trust you to assess your own child’s ability to participate safely. Keep in mind that the tour is entirely on the road and participants are expected to stay to the right when necessary to allow traffic to pass. There are also a few significant hills along the tour route, which can be tiring for shorter legs.
If you have children under 12 who would like to pedal, or you just want a more level route, consider our Coastal Maine Family Beach Bike Tour, available by request. Our Coastal Classic Scenic & Historical E-Bike Tour also includes options for transporting younger kids as passengers.

Let’s get this out of the way. If you really, really hate cycling uphill, this tour may not be for you. As you can see from the elevation profile, there are a few good-sized hills starting around the midpoint of the tour. We know hills can be a bummer, but your moderate effort will be rewarded with some of the best ocean views in the area. We have guided hundreds of riders of all ages up and over these rolling hills, and most were glad we did.
If you prefer to walk your bike up the hills, you will encounter no judgment from your tour guide, who will ensure you reach the top safely. This is a sightseeing tour, not the Tour de France!
Looking for a lighter workload? Consider our Coastal Classic Scenic & Historical E-Bike Tour, which follows the same general route but on hill-erasing class 2 e-bikes.

Child seats and trailers available.

Please note: Looser pant legs may get snagged in the bicycle chain. If your personal style is on the "flowy" side, your guide may recommend tucking your pants into your socks.

Please arrive at least 15-minutes early to check in and get fitted for bikes and helmets. Parking should be plentiful in front of the bike shop, 8 Western Ave., Kennebunk, Maine. Pay for parking at kiosks. If parking lot is full, you may park for free at 30 North St., a .6-mile walk from the bike shop.
Health & Safety
Helmets are required (and will be provided). You will sign a safety waiver before commencing the tour. Participants should be comfortable riding a bicycle for two hours or more with frequent breaks.

Yes, it is, and we share the road with traffic. It is simply impossible to plot an off-road bicycle tour along this section of the Maine coast; the roads are too old and narrow for dedicated bike lanes. However, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport are known as bike-friendly communities. Summer traffic moves slowly and drivers watch out for cyclists and pedestrians. Furthermore, our guides are all experienced riders, trained to provide careful instruction and observation to keep you and your group-members safe along the route. Coastal Maine Outdoors has a spotless safety record. Please call if you have any concerns (207-967-6065).
No. You will share the tour with other groups. We take out up to 10 participants at a time.
If you are interested in a private tour, please call 207-967-6065 or email info@coastalmainehikeandbike.com and we'll set something up!
You can book another time as a private tour. Please call 207-967-6065 or email info@coastalmainehikeandbike.com.
Due to the length of the tour, traffic, and hills, we will not take children below 12 as cyclists on our non-private tours. We can provide child seats and trailers for an additional fee, however.
We can also be a bit more accommodating on our private tours. If you would like to set up a child-friendly cycling tour for your family, please give us a call or email.
