Coastal Maine Outdoors is a growing outdoor recreation company focused on helping people experience Maine by bike and beyond. Our bike department supports both local riders and visitors looking for quality bikes, expert service, and the right equipment for their adventures.

We are looking for an experienced bicycle professional to take ownership of the day-to-day success of our bike shop. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys both the technical side of cycling and the customer-facing side of the industry to help grow a department within an established outdoor business.

The Bike Shop Manager & Lead Mechanic will be responsible for leading the bike department through expert service, bike sales, new bike builds, customer relationships, inventory management, rental fleet maintenance, and continuous improvement of shop operations.

This role is ideal for an experienced mechanic who is ready to take on greater responsibility and operate with independence while working closely with ownership on the continued growth and direction of the bike business.

The successful candidate will be confident making day-to-day decisions, solving problems, communicating with customers, and helping build a strong bike department.

• Perform professional bicycle repairs, maintenance, and diagnostics across a variety of bikes
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and provide efficient, accurate solutions
• Build and prepare new bicycles for customer sales
• Handle warranty claims and communicate with manufacturers when needed
• Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and workmanship
• Maintaining + servicing our expansive rental fleet, including e-bikes, e-trikes, cruisers, and recreational bikes

• Assist customers in selecting the right bicycle, accessories, and service options based on their needs
• Use mechanical expertise to educate customers and build confidence in purchasing decisions
• Help grow bicycle and accessory sales through excellent service and product knowledge
• Provide clear estimates, repair recommendations, and follow-up communication
• Create a welcoming, professional experience for both local customers and visitors

• 5+ years of professional bicycle mechanic experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of modern bicycle systems, including e-bikes and electric components
• Experience working in a retail bike shop environment
• Ability to balance technical service work with customer interaction and sales
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical information clearly
• Organized, dependable, and comfortable working independently
• Passion for cycling and outdoor recreation

This position is primarily focused on the busy cycling season (approximately April–October), with pay and scheduling and off-season expectations to be discussed.
